The .hack series are a series created by Ban-Dai. It is originally an Anime. It is about an MMORPG called "The World" that gets hacked by some mysterious characters and puts a virus into the game. Whenever you get killed by a virus in the game then the virus infects you in real life. Don't worry, this is fictional xD. Anyway, you play as Kite and you team up with other players who you meet in "The World" and you must defeat these viruses once and for all before it infects the entire globe! There are currently two game series. The first one has four games which are called (in order) Infection, Mutation, Outbreak and Quarantine. These are all on PS2. There is another series due to come out called .hack G.U. I'm pretty sure there are three games in the G.U. series.

.hack//frägment
.hack//frägment is a multiplayer online game based on the fictional MMORPG portrayed in the .hack franchise. It was made as a joint project by Bandai and Cyberconnect2. It was released in Japan on November 23, 2005. Since its release in Japan, there have been continuous arguments as to whether it will ever make it to North America, with both sides having many valid reasons; Bandai has announced at E3 '06 that frägment will not be coming to North America. It is an online RPG with a cap of 3 players per party. Players can create fields and dungeons using a dungeon editor on their PCs. Guilds are also available. It is rumored that there is not a monthly fee for playing online. There is no info yet on whether or not PvP (player versus player) is available. The game’s character creation system uses the six classes used in other .hack media; see .hack character classes for more information.
